I really love how interchangeable Acne's AW11 collection is, ranging from luxury basic shirts to on-trend colour block skirts the collection is full of wardrobe staples perfect for the upcoming months and beyond. It's also nice to see that the coveted shearling jacket has made a reprisal and it slots in perfectly with the casual knit and jersey pieces. The collection is somewhat pricey, though not entirely unaffordable, and I think that the price-tag is completely justified when you take into consideration the quality and longevity of the pieces (I hate to use the term 'investment buy' here....). Acne is all about dressing fashionably without the fuss, just slip on one of their dresses and a pair of boots and you're good to go...an outlook on dressing I can definitely live by.

Fall for Shoes

I'm aware that I've dedicated far too much space of this blog chattering away about Topshop's Fall collection but I just couldn't resist posting about these shoes. My favourites in particular are the matte sequin chelsea boots, a copy of the rather pricey silver Giuseppe Zanotti pair. Although probably a bit too glam rock for most peoples tastes, I rather like the idea of them adding a bit of life to an all black or casual ensemble. Caroline, of Carolines Mode, demonstrates the look perfectly.

Lauren Conrad, of The Hills fame, has added flashes of colour to her golden locks and I now have serious hair envy. I think this is a look which can easily go wrong (think 'My Little Pony') but the colour she used is only temporary which makes this a seriously fun look without the worry of any mane disasters in the long-term. Bearing in mind that the average 14 year old is without the financial means to afford anything by Miu Miu (heck I'm 22 and I'm still struggling with high-street prices), it's difficult to understand the plausible reason behind Miu Miu choosing Hayley Steinfeld to represent a collection that is essentially targeted at grown women who can afford the £1000 plus price tag and might not be able to relate to the brand's new muse. But this is the world of fashion after all where anything goes, and Hayley Steinfeld does look exceptionally pretty in this beautifully shot campaign by Bruce Weber. I was blown away by Hayley's performance in True Grit (the campaign even seems loosely influenced by the film) and when making appearances at various award shows for the film I was impressed with her stylish ability to dress age appropriate without appearing too demure. The campaign overall has a very youthful and nostalgic feel to it and although at first I was sceptical at the choice of model I can honestly say I adore it, it might be my favourite Miu Miu campaign yet!

Just as you're getting into the groove of all things Summer and you finally think that you've managed to navigate a fashionable wardrobe suitable for the temperamental British weather; along come the Autumn/Winter press days to swiftly send your fashion radar into a frenzy and have you mentally plotting buys for coats which aren't even available for another five months. For some reason I have only just gotten around to scoping out images of Topshop's AW 11 press day, so I am not entirely sure how I let the following images escape my radar as I literally love everything about the collection! Dalmation and leopard prints, faux fur chelsea boots and wedges, embellished shirts, sequin brothel creepers, 1940's inspired cocktail dresses with faux fur boleros and 70's inspired tailoring have resulted in a very glamorous, dynamic and vintage inspired collection. I already have a mighty long wishlist of items I'd love to get my hands on and I don't think I have ever been this excited about a high-street collection before...here's to a glamorous Fall!

So I pretty much love Jesse Jo Stark's collection for Vans. If florals aren't your thing then this is a perfectly acceptable level of grunge to still maintain your fashion street cred with during the summer months. Upside of this collection being that it was designed by the god daughter of Cher, downside being that it probably won't ever be available in the UK. May have to start scoping out eBay if I ever want a piece because I really can't wait to live in those shorts and creepers.

The Outsider

Kirsten Dunst has collaborated with hipster favourite Band of Outsiders for their 'Girl' collection. Other collaborators/wearers of the brand include the famous faces of James Marsden, Steve Buscemi, Ryan Reynolds, Andrew Garfield, Jason Schwartzman and Marisa Tomei...just to name a few.

The lookbook is largely compromised of polaroid photographs, an aesthetic trademark of Band of Outsiders which aids with giving the campaign a slightly nostalgic and personal feel, almost as if Kirsten Dunst has taken all the photographs herself. I love the quintessential cuteness of the images (not to mention the clothes) and the last two images especially make me wish that Spring would hurry up!

Spending Haul

The clutches of on-line shopping have grabbed me again and I've been rather naughty and deposited a large chunk of my wages with the one-stop fashion shop that is Nasty Gal. I decided to take the fiscal plunge and purchase the Sam Edelman boots I've been coveting for over a year, I'm planning to wear them with black skinnies or my leather skinny trousers and a grey marl tee. I also bought the Alexa dress (very similar to the one she wore on the cover of UK Elle?) which I think will look super cute with lace socks. I'm counting down the days to their arrival!

Winter is officially here and all I can think about are breezy summer dresses and a life without the need for tights and a thousand layers. Recent Fashion Weeks haven't done much to help this either, with their exotic and insightful glimpse into Spring/Summer 2011. My favourite collection by far had to be Mulberry's. I wrote a little review of it a while ago and thought I'd post it now whilst I'm in my longing phase for sunnier days.

Mulberry SS11 - New York Fashion Week

Mulberry is the name on everyone’s lips at the moment, and after last year’s oh so stylish Alexa bags who can blame them? The line of coveted bags were an instant hit and an immediate sell out which succeeded in pushing Mulberry further into the fashion spotlight than it’s ever been before. With Emma Hill, recent Creative Director of Mulberry, as one of the main forces behind Mulberry’s recent and rising success the pressure was on for her to continue to wow the fashion elite at New York Fashion Week.

Mulberry, of course, exceeded expectations once again and presented a fresh palette of pastel orange, dusty pink, white and cornflower blue with hints of trademark tan accessories. The collection was impeccably perfect for Spring/Summer with light floaty linen dresses and super feminine skirt suits. Rather than going down the typical floral pattern route for an obvious spring touch, rosettes and 3-D frills were instead added to dresses. Mulberry effortlessly succeeded in creating the ultimate pretty spring wardrobe for the modern girl about town.

Be an 'Anna':

Always dreamed of sitting front row at London Fashion Week? Well Topshop wants to help you achieve that dream (or at least give you the feeling of having achieved it!) by streaming free live shows right from the catwalk. Starting from tomorrow you can have a little mosey on over to their website to watch a live stream of shows from designers including Mary Katrantzou, Richard Nicoll and Topshop Unique (duh). The schedule can be found here.

Starting from today the official London Fashion Week website will also be streaming a variety of shows with designers including PPQ, Betty Jackson, ACNE (I'll be setting aside time for this!), Holly Fulton and Amanda Wakely, just to name a few.

I have my eye on some rather lovely body jewellery that has just come into stock at Urban Outfitters, and most of it is priced at a rather affordable £12! Somewhat of a bargain compared to most body chains I've seen which average around the £300 price mark. Simply perfect for jazzing up a simple t-shirt!

Sizing Up Marc Jacobs

So news has spread (rather like wildfire) that Marc Jacobs is to expand his range to include a 'Plus Size' collection. Now 'Plus Size' is a phrase I can't abide, the connotations of this are not at all flattering to the lady it might be describing and it's not at all specific; for instance a UK 14 on the catwalk is often referred to as 'Plus Size' and on the High Street 'Plus Size' falls into the UK Size 16 range. Yet I personally would place UK Sizes 18 and over into the 'Plus Size' category as most High Street stores cater for UK Sizes 6 to 16.

As Marc Jacobs is an established designer I am going to assume that the collection will provide for ladies over a UK Size 14, and this is obviously brilliant for a number of reasons. Not only will it help to transform the unrealistic runway body shape that we currently view as 'perfection' but it re-establishes the fact that we are sick of the 'one size fits all' mentality that many designers share. This shift in size range, although seemingly non-important, proves that consumers and their needs are still important and influential. More importantly, it shows that designers are taking note. Where there is a consumer need there will be a designer ready to provide. Unfortunately with the case of larger sized clothing there have not been many brands 'confident' enough to be the first to set an example. After all, so far it is mainly uncharted waters (save for the rather low-key 'Plus Size' Chanel and Dolce & Gabbana collections) and with the current unstable economy many designers prefer to play it safe with smaller sizes.

Thank God then for the more spirited and realistic designers, such as Marc Jacobs, who realise that the shape of the modern woman is constantly changing and that the skinny lanky frames of the 16 year old runway beauties are not a realistic or achievable image. Obviously I am not trying to say that a Size 16 should be the new standard, in fact I don't believe in any size standards as we are all different in structure and each person should be happy with whatever size they are. Nor should size be a constant obsession within the media and general society. The Prada A/W '10 show was a great example of women of different ages and sizes being celebrated individually for who they are, proving that diversity is beautiful.

Pullitzer Prizewinner Robin Givhan's article in the September issue of UK Elle beautifully argues the fashion tug of war with sizes and how our society is more than ready for an image shake up. Hopefully Marc Jacob's collection for the woman above a Size 14 will set a precedent for other designers who should realise that women come in all shapes and sizes. The collection won't be ready for about a year but I imagine that it will be anticipated with baited breath.

Leather, Spikes and Shearling Galore!

I have decided that I am no good at Summer dressing. I prefer layering and this is something which unfortunately is quite hard to achieve in the heat without running the risk of turning into something of a sweaty mess. I'd be lying if I said that I hadn't tried Summer layering already, twice this month I have donned my Shearling jacket only to literally tear it off as soon as I get outside realising my hopeful mistake. I think I am in a state of Autumn dressing denial. Anywhoo, it is only natural then that I should get all excited about the A/W 10 collection previews for certain high street stores. My favourite of course being Topshop's. I've said it before and I shall say it again, their Summer collections are bland. However their Winter collections are something of a winner with a multitude of looks and a mix of luxurious fabrics inspired by street style, bloggers and the runway; they most definitely are the leaders of the high street in that respect.

Once again exceeding expectations, the lookbook for their A/W 10 collection has impressed all. There are details upon details and each one more impressive than the last. A silver spike trim on a cloak for instance. Or a cotton tee layered underneath a metal bra perhaps. Personally I love everything I've seen and it has made me just that little more excited for Autumn time. The only thing I could possibly be worried about now is my Autumn bank balance.

P.S. Just before I published this post I noticed that I had wrote A/W 11 about twenty times. So excited for Autumn am I that apparently I'm a year ahead!

Crocodile Friends

Walter Van Beirendonk's designs can always be relied upon to add a little humour relief to the often intense atmosphere and structured creations of fashion week. True to form, his Spring/Summer 2011 collection did not fail to disappoint with life size crocodile and tiger bags clinging ferociously onto the backs of their owners.

Walter Van Beirendonk states an almost child-like inspiration behind the design: 'I really wanted to make huge bags, which look almost like a doll friend, I guess like a teddy bear, that you can take out with you.'

However the main catalyst behind the wonderful creatures is Van Beirendonk's love of nature: 'I use fashion to communicate messages, statements and ideas which pop up in my head. Of course I realize that it is extremely difficult to change the world. But, if I could change one thing, I would save nature and the animals. They are so fragile, but so extremely beautiful and precious.'

Nails are really having their moment this season. Everything from Leopard Print to Transfers to Diamonds are an acceptable form of nail wear. However BYS Nails are really throwing something into the mix. Hailing from Australia, the brand has come forth with Cracked...a nail polish that upon drying creates tiny cracks for the ultimate grunge inspired look.

I love the pop of pink under the black and this would be great for layering over other nail polishes. However I can't help feeling that in person this may just look like a nail job gone bad? What are your thoughts?

A Pleasant Fall Ahead

Regular readers will understand my love of all things shearling (best peeking out of the folds of a brown leather jacket) and if the Topshop A/W '10 show has taught us anything, it's that we shall be living and breathing shearling this Winter!

The rest of the shearling-free collection is equally as impressive and in my opinion seems to appear much edgier and much more likeable than years Fall collection.

This jacket in particular is my favourite (no brainer for me really) and I seriously can't wait until it hits stores!

Ahoy there! Brand new 'Alehouse and Eatery' The Shipping Forecast has officially landed on the shores of Liverpool. Already it is a huge hit, despite only opening up last week. I myself have been a few times now (including a visit for The Maccabees DJ Set which was simply amazing) and I am completely in love with the place and cannot stop raving about it to everyone I meet! The home-made chips in particular are alone worth the visit, plus check out my amazing Mojito!

I decided to interview Amy, a resident staff of The Shipping Forecast, to find out more:

- Now that The Shipping Forecast has officially landed in Liverpool, how would you describe it's first week?

Well I'd describe it as busy to f*** in all honesty haha, especially it's first weekend. There were a few kinks obviously but an all round successful opening week! A lot of people are talking about us!

- The food menu looks stellar! What delicacies should we go for?

Oooh so much choice, in our training we were made (and I say 'made' as at one point I could not eat any more) to taste everything on this season's menu. My favorite is the lamb burger that comes with marytime double cut chips! You will leave with your pants unbuttoned but wanting more!

- I've heard that The Shipping Forecast has been set up by the same people who have organised the infamous hipster hangout Nation of Shopkeepers in Leeds, how does it compare? Does it have the same vibe?

This is indeed true, 580limited run Leeds Nation of Shopkeepers and a lot of other bars throughout the UK. As I used to live in Leeds I made an appearance there every now and then; the difference between the two is something to pick up on. I feel here in the Liverpool bar, the staff are a lot friendlier and have a sense of it's all about the personality. Banter at The Shipping Forecast is definitely encouraged!

- What type of music can we expect to be played? Any resident DJ's or monthly specials?

The music is modern but with a twist. Our in-house DJ's play the best in Electro, Indie, Dub-Step and the occasional Reggae. Every Thursday we have Clever Club play in the basement.

- There seems to be a lot of Vice logos splashed about The Shipping Forecast (sorry about the 'Sea' pun), what's the link between the two?

Both The Shipping Forecast and Vice have a passion for uniqueness and services you can't find anywhere else. Vice has Terry Richardson and we have our homemade food and unique beverages from all around the world.

- And are there any special events we can look forward to in the near future?

This bank holiday Sunday we are honored with a Giles Peterson FIVE hour set, which is going to definitely put The Shipping Forecast on the map, even more after The Maccabees spinning some tracks in house last Saturday. June 5th sees a free, yes that's right free, performance from New Young Pony Club, which I am so excited for!

I'm not even sure how I wandered across the Chevrolet Spark Unscheduled Tour website but before I knew it my Blackberry was flashing it's little red light with the news that I had won two tickets to see The Mystery Jets play live on the Mersey Ferry. This was to be a very exclusive event with only 200 guests permitted (only 50 or so turned up in the end) and a free bar was available for all competition winners....downside being that the free drinks only included neon coloured alcopops and the band was over an hour late!

I have loved The Mystery Jets for so long now, I even remember watching the original video release for 'You Can't Fool Me Dennis' on MTV2 way back when. So it was quite a nostalgic moment for me to be able to hear some of the favourite songs of my youth being played in such an intimate setting. The Mystery Jets also played many songs from their promising new album 'Luminescence' which I really can't wait to get my hands on.

All in all it was an amazing night and the unusual setting of the gig against the passing Liverpool scenery created a really distinct atmosphere. The combination of free alcohol and unruly waves may not have been such a wise idea though. The intimate venue meant that banter between the band and audience was strong and requests for songs were even taken on board near the end! I really wish more bands would consider playing gigs in unorthodox venues, it really does make the whole experience more memorable.

Swedish and Danish style has been peaking interest of late and there is now an abundance of Stockholm and Copenhagen street-style websites available at our fingertips. From what I have observed, the appeal of their style is the clever layering of simple pieces and the ability to flawlessly imitate catwalk looks.

Whilst I obviously adore the style of fellow Britons I feel that at the moment British street-style is too messy, almost as if there is some non-verbal wacky agreement to throw on as many different colours/fabrics/textures/pieces of clothing as possible (albeit this only rings true for certain scenes of individuals!). For this reason I am currently craving clean-cut lines and crisp shirts, something which Alexa Chung would happily adorn and yet something which I'm having a hard time trying to locate on the British high-street.

Whilst prowling the internet for Swedish inspiration one name that popped up again and again was Monki. Upon further on-line inspection I discovered that Monki was a very popular Swedish originated retail store, stocking what appeared to be my very own dream wardrobe! After glancing at the prices I was sure this was some kind of mirage brought on by my Swedish shopping fever, but after another look I can confirm that prices for these up-scale garments are very affordable (try a little bit cheaper than Topshop).

Unfortunately my buzz was killed by the news that Monki do not currently have any stores within the UK nor do they offer an on-line service. Luckily, after emailing one of their nice representatives, I can tell you that they will be opening an on-line store this Autumn so that us Monki obsessives in the UK can finally get our mitts on our own piece of Swedish style!

I've been terrible over the past few months and have completely neglected my blog duties.....this was mainly due to hiding indoors trying to swot up for my University exams. Luckily all that is done with until September and I now have 5 glorious months of freedom ahead of me!

I've tried my best to keep up with fellow bloggers and I've enjoyed reading all the lovely comments that have been left for me :) You guys really do warm my cockles!

I had my April issue of UK Elle delivered this week and I loved everything about it, in particular the cover shot of Chloe Sevigny. I think she's a great role model for unconventional beauty and she always takes the latest trends and adapts them to her own style in a way which makes it seem as if the entire outfit was designed specifically with her in mind. Her wardrobe for the shoot consists of pieces from Marc Jacobs, Miu Miu (adore the cat print!), Prada, Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci, Louise Goldin and Donna Karan. So basically Chloe Sevigny has been paid to be photographed by the prestigious Rankin for an Elle cover, and gets to wear a dream wardrobe of all my favourite designers in the process. Plus her perfect pins are on full display in every picture. Umm jealous much?

Can Clogs Be Chic?

So according to the likes of Chanel and Louis Vuitton we are all going to be sporting a clog or two this Spring. As much as I love (actually more like worship) the creative genius of Karl Lagerfeld I have to admit that I was pretty skeptical about this. The sight of these clogs automatically flashed my mind back to badly dressed hippy mums waiting at the school gates, further convincing me that there is no flattering way to wear these shoes. However after seeing Alexa Chung and MK Olsen sporting a pair I'm beginning to see how the clog can be wearable and chic off the catwalk. In fact, I'm actually starting to want a pair to team with pretty floral dresses and grey marl tights!

The high street has been quick to adapt to this trend, but Kurt Geiger has produced my personal favourites so far. Wearable and high quality but without the Chanel price tag!

Everyone loves accessories. They transform any outfit from day-to-night, casual-to-chic and can take that Alexander Wang inspired sport luxe outfit right into the ultra-glam luxe zone.

I myself am all about vintage accessories, I love their daintiness and girliness however their fragility is something which I'm not so fond of. Far too many pieces have crumbled apart in my hands and left me longing for something unique, vintage and girly that came without the second-hand experience. I have completely fallen in love with this gorgeous luggage by Sarah Williams. The pastel shades, unorthodox shapes and secret drawers have got me hooked. I think I would be far too cautious to actually take these away with me though (think bumbling luggage handlers). To see these with even the faintest scratch would break my heart a little, instead I think I could settle with having them as an extra decorative addition to my room! The pink/peach one is practically a mini wardrobe in its own right!

Alexa Chung's collection for Madwell is due later this year, and I'd quite happily buy it all! The whole collection is very much inspired by Alexa's personal style (some are saying too much?) and at an apparently ridiculously affordable price it's sure to be a sell out with the Chungster brigade. It's nothing innovative but it's very wearable and I love the fact that many of the pieces are vintage inspired. After seeing the Rodarte and upcoming Zac Posen collection for Target, and now this, I think it's time for me to get over to the States!

Ever since I saw Alexa working the Acne flying jacket I've been obsessed with sheepskin jackets. Anyone who knows me will know that I have been searching high and low for the perfect sheepskin jacket for months! Alas Spring is almost here and a bulky sheepskin addition to my wardrobe would not be wise for the warmer months. Just when I'd given up all hope though, Fashion Week rolls around and to my great delight sheepskin is everywhere! I'm already excited for A/W 10 where I plan to buy sheepskin goods in their dozens....I may have to draw the line though at the Topshop Unique sheepskin eyebrows. That would just be overkill.

Thanks to Alexander Wang, the side plait is officially cool again for those over the age of 9. And I think this is such a cute trend for Spring/Summer! Team it with super short floral dresses, a pop of pink creme blush and some bronzed limbs. For a great day-to-night look just take the plait out and comb through for super glamorous waves. Karl Who?

Karl Lagerfeld has participated in V Magazine's fabulous, and much talked about, size issue by shooting plus size model Miss Dirty Martini. This has come to be much of a surprise to me, as this is a man who notoriously stated that no one wants to see curvy models and that those who complain about the Size Zero epidemic are merely 'fat mummies sat in front of the television with their chip packets'. Insanely ridiculous I know. But it seems as though he has truly eaten his words as I was completely taken aback by just how amazing his shoot turned out to be. The model looks amazing and the styling is spectacular. All in all very true to form of Mr. Lagerfeld.

So could this be a turning point for Karl Lagerfeld? A lesson learned perhaps? For all we know plus sized models could soon be strutting their stuff on the runway for Chanel, proving once and for all that bony hips and giraffe like legs are not a pre-requisite for looking stylish and fabulous.

The latest UK version of Vogue landed on my doorstep this morning...

I think the actual editorial feature of Natalia is breathtaking and very refreshing for a Vogue feature, but the cover just doesn't do it for me. Very Spring-esque but also very bland? UK Vogue has been a bit of a let down for me recently and it definitely doesn't compare to it's international counterparts....but that's just my personal opinion!

There was also a small feature on page 56 about the rising fashionable acceptance of hoods, a trend which I believe Vogue is a little late to pick up on!

Perfection at Primark?

As much as I admire Primark for being able to cheaply and quickly produce catwalk copy cats, I actually don't shop there that often. Hardly ever in fact. I guess I'm just not so keen on the idea of spotting lots of individuals sporting the exact same Primark bargain as myself.

However, I decided to make a quick detour there yesterday to see whether they've developed any of their products as I hadn't popped in in quite some time....and I was pleasantly surprised to find these beauties!

And all for the bargain price of £19.99
A shoe that the likes of Topshop would no doubt charge £70 for.

I think I just might pop into Primark a bit more often!

I lovelovelove Marc Jacobs! His collections never fail to disappoint. Yes, this collection may be very reminiscent of his last. And no, it's not exactly anything ground-breaking. However, Marc Jacobs knows what works and his Spring 2010 collection has captured the essence of street style and brought it so strikingly to the catwalk. If I had the money, I would snap up the whole collection in a heart beat.

Signs of a Significant September

Not only is September 18th synonymous with the launch of the Christopher Kane for Topshop Fall collection, but it is also the opening date for the new and improved Liverpool branch of Topshop! The Liverpool store is set to be the biggest flagship store outside of London, so I can't wait to pop down there tomorrow and see how it's turned out!

To mark the event Topshop are giving away lots of free treats, such as gift cards loaded with up to £500 worth of credit! I'll let you know if I strike gold (that's Topshop figurative gold, of course).

I also turn 21 on the 26th of this month, my super sweet boyfriend knows how much of a Topshop addict I am and gave me a gift card worth £100 as an early birthday present...just in time for the new Topshop opening :)

Oh how you are fast becoming one of my favourite style crushes! Her style is so approachable and effortless, and I'm always surprised to find that half of the clothes she wears are nabbed from the high street (she even wore a Primark belt teamed with a Topshop dress to the Barbara Hulanicki for Topshop preview!). I think she could authenticate her style a bit more by adding a few vintage pieces here and there though.

Although a T4 replacement for Alexa Chung, she's not quite replaced the Alexa Chung shaped hole in my heart.

Anyone catch the four piece spread on Alexa's style in Grazia this week? Was really interesting to see just how much her style has developed since running off to New York!

Fashion Over Function

I bought myself the marvellous Agnes boot by Topshop yesterday!

Just perfect for the colder days with my thick patterned tights and my Barbour jacket, however I'm taking advantage of the smidgen of good weather we're currently having by teaming them with bare legs and floral dresses.

They go with absolute everything in my wardrobe, and the deceiving 4 inch heel works wonders for my 5"2 frame! The only downside of these is that they don't half work my feet to death, I'm currently sporting some major blisters as a result :(

Maybe I just need to wear them in a bit? Does anyone else have these boots and found that they have the same problem? Get in touch!

The Christoper Kane AW '09 collection for Topshop has finally been revealed! And it is possibly one of the greatest designer-turned-high street collections my eyes have ever witnessed. My jaw proceeded to drop an inch further with every page I turned of his marvellous look book.

Due in-store and on-line on 18th September I can predict that this will be another sell out collection for Topshop, I'm already sharpening my elbows in preparation for the stampeding madness that will no doubt ensue!
